I get it, this sounds like it’s going to be another blah blah about the typical dos and don’ts of dating apps and online dating. But no, this is something that women who actually want to find that life partner should pay attention to and maybe think about. You know the old story, repeat the same behavior, don’t expect a different result. I am going to go through some in 2026 top mistakes women make on dating apps.
Remember, we’ve been writing these stories at My One Amor for over 10 years and unlike most of the dating advice out there, ours is free. No BS, so, no ads, no agendas, no selling become a great woman packages, none of that. We just tell the stories based on real life experiences, plain and simple.
Even when we write these articles, we ignore most of the AI suggestions, what true authors who write real stories do.
At My One Amor we had a secret weapon for many years, an anonymous serial dater, who we called “Dating Addict”. Yes, this is and was a 100% real person who shared his stories of hundreds of short term relationships he was in. Most did involve sex. We heard from many women over the years thanking us for his stories as it taught them things to look out for that the so called dating experts never would have thought of as our stories, we’re real and raw.
Now to the dating apps and first off please don’t refer to dating apps as online dating, you date yourself. If you have an AOL email address, I’m talking to you. Maybe pick up a video at Blockbuster on the way home from work. You get the point.
I read an article from September 3rd written by some woman who clearly doesn’t have a clue still talking about coffee dates. Hello, there is something called video chat. It’s even built into Match and Bumble. Not sure what’s up with Hinge, not that tough to add. There is something called open source in the world of software, means the code is free.
This same woman wrote about meeting someone for the first time in a public place, duh, and yes mankind has discovered fire and there is something called the internet. Yikes are people morons?
The truth is that navigating a dating app for a woman is not that tough. Yes, and even the old you control the first contact Bumble is gone. Men can send you the first message and say whatever they want. So, the “Hey baby, you’re hot” is back. I guess women can feel a little better since the men have to pay extra for each one of those comments.
Bumble also figured out that those “Opening Move” preprogrammed questions that women sent we’re as lame as the “Hey baby” messages so now when people connect, they have to message. And no more 24 hours, that was always too short, now it’s 72 hours. These changes alone should be sending a loud and clear message to women that what was going on before wasn’t working.
Most people agree that Bumble, Hinge and Match are pretty much the game if you’re looking for a relationship. Hinge seems to have an issue, aside from the lack of phone and video functions, with verifications. There are countless stories of legitimate people, mostly men, being permanently banned from the app for just reopening a previously voluntarily closed account. So, ladies, that man who may be the one you’re looking for can’t even get on the Hinge app. There have been stories about who actually wrote the Hinge app. Maybe the real developers would prefer it to malfunction and self-destruct. There were also stories that Facebook Dating was actually a copy of Hinge.
And what about Match. Has definitely stood the test of time. Lots and lots of relationships have come from Match. A couple of criticisms, it’s definitely geared toward older singles, and old school people. The other issue is their subscriptions. They force you to commit to at least a 3 month subscription, even on a new account. I get the whole subscriber retention but at least let someone try it out for a month and see. Also, people can see when you’re online and the last time you logged in, etc. That tends to lead to people questioning intentions of someone after a first date and so on. Don’t need an audit trail on dating apps.
So, girls, let’s get into the WTF is going wrong here. Decide if you are really on the app to genuinely find someone or it’s just a wait and see kind of thing. If it’s a wait and see, then you’re probably ready for what is going to happen, nothing. When you say I don’t need a man, I’m happy in my life but would love to find the right person, you’re probably going to continue to remain single.
Dating apps are for making an initial contact. They are not designed or intended to develop a connection. Don’t shoot the messenger here. That is the reality and true.
Having said that, if you are truly looking to meet that life partner, it takes a little effort. It also means don’t just be drawn to the shiny object of the pretty pictures. Remember those pictures may not be real or even be a good representation of what that person really looks like. We all know the word catfish. With AI, anyone can turn into model quality and look like they live some amazing life.
Here is the #1 mistake women make upon initial contact, do not be a pen pal. After you make contact, talk as soon as possible. On Bumble and Match you can do it right through the app. First off, the obvious, you’ll know if the person is real and can they actually can carry on a conversation. Again, I get the whole tell me a little about yourself messaging, wrong, waste of time. If you met someone organically, would you ask them to send you an email telling you about themselves? Hopefully, you get it.
If you take too long to have that initial conversation, guys who are serous will see you as woman who has either been on dating apps too long or really is not on there for the right reasons. And on the flip side, if a guy doesn’t want to talk right away, he’s probably a waste of your time.
Next big mistake is not talking upfront about monogamy and focusing on one person at a time. There is no evidence anywhere to suggest that dating multiple people at a time and one suddenly rises to top actually works. It’s more likely that you’ll just become a serial dater.
Guys who have their shit together aren’t interested in entered into a lottery with other men to get someone to focus on them. They’ll just pass, as there are so many choices.
And while we’re on that topic, reality check, there are more women seeking serious relationships than men. That number gets even dramatically smaller with men who are actually genuine. Ask any professional matchmaker the ratio of women to men looking for their services.
Women sometimes ask where are all the good men? The short answer is, they are already in relationships. But occasionally those relationships do end and those men become single.
The key to success for a woman on a dating app is catching one of those men in that narrow window of opportunity when they are single, as they will definitely find someone. Why not you?
Playing hard to get, not paying attention, messaging them to death, sayings things like I don’t really need a man, won’t get you one of them.
If what you’re doing isn’t working to find a good man, which I’m sure is about 90% of the women who are reading this, try a couple basic changes to your approach. Yes, it’s doing something a little different, but what if it works?
An actual contributor to this article was someone who was involved with the creation of one of the dating apps mentioned above.
Oh, and if I was going to give a recommendation for a dating app, the way Bumble works now, it’s my #1 choice.
I’d love to hear from you, send me an email at: vanessa@myoneamor.com.
This is my first article on My One Amor in over 5 years. I have seen so many women keep repeating the same mistake. I felt it time to try to give women some real advice on how to find love as I did. Dating apps can work, but not the way most women seem to be approaching them. Think, why did a major dating app geared to helping women change what it was doing so fundamentally? The answer is obvious; it wasn’t working for women.
