It is a new year and you’re single and have a made a New Years resolution that you’ll be in a lasting relationship in 2018. So here’s the surprising truth about top ways to find love in 2018.
It seems that gone are the days where people met through family or friends or even in person for the first time. But surprisingly the #2 way people meet after dating apps is through friends (according to ReportLinker). Also this same study found that 81% said they are NOT registered on dating websites or apps. So what works best ?
The reality is that dating apps are have great successes when it comes to meeting new friends. Bumble now has as many users as match.com. But the king is still Tinder with match.com as #2 of actual users. However, Bumble is mostly for millennials where match.com attracts just about everyone. I personally have had great success with match.com.
So no surprise that the dating app business is at $2.4B. But fear not you can still find love for free online.
POF (Plenty of Fish) and OKCupid (both owned by match) are free and have many millions of subscribers. Our own Dating Addict has written stores of people he successfully met on POF.
So back to the numbers for a second. According to Bustle, 57% of millennials use dating apps but overall 39% of people still met their significant other though friends. It kind of makes sense with the high rate of growth in the professional matchmaker business (who are akin to a friend introduction, albeit paid).
Another surprise is that the number of people who met through sports or other activities is in the single digit percentages.
So it does seem if you are on a time line, the dating apps are your best choice to start. But do remember that it can be a slippery slope for women as we have written about before and mentioned in RepirtLinker study. If you want to save a lot of time with a high percentage of success, a professional matchmaker will always come out on top.
